Why June is the Best Month to Bring Little Ones to the Costa Brava

If your children haven’t started school yet, you have a superpower that most parents would kill for: you can travel outside of school holidays. And if you’re looking for a villa holiday in Spain with toddlers or pre-schoolers, June on the Costa Brava is hard to beat.

We’ve been welcoming families with young children to our villas in Begur for over ten years. Here’s why so many of them come back, and why June is our favourite month to recommend.

India on Sa Riera Beach

The Weather is Perfect (Not Too Hot)

July and August in Spain can hit 35°C+, which is tough with little ones. June averages a much more comfortable 25-28°C: warm enough for the pool and beach all day, cool enough for everyone to sleep well at night. No battling to keep sun cream on a wriggling toddler every twenty minutes.

Quiet Beaches, No Crowds

Sa Riera Beach is a 15-minute walk from both our villas, and in June it can feel like your own private bay. The water is calm and shallow at the shore, perfect for paddling. You won’t be fighting for a spot on the sand or queueing at the chiringuito. The hidden coves along the coast path are even quieter, and the crystal-clear water is something children never forget.

Everything You Need is Already Here

Travelling with small children means luggage. Lots of luggage. That’s why both our villas come with cots and high chairs at no extra charge. We also provide a welcome pack with essentials (including a bottle of wine for when they’re finally asleep), all linen and towels including pool towels, and a midweek clean so you don’t spend your holiday tidying up.

Your Own Private Pool

No strangers, no hotel pool rules, no worrying about older kids bombing in while your toddler is paddling at the steps. Both villas have their own private pool. Villa Begur’s pool is 6m x 4.3m, and Villa Sa Riera’s is a larger 8.7m x 3.4m with the option to heat it if you want warmer temperatures for the little ones.

Begur is Made for Families

The medieval village of Begur is a 15-minute walk from the villas, with cobbled streets, a castle to explore, and a central square where you can sit with a coffee while the children run around safely. The restaurants are family-friendly without being “family restaurants”. We particularly recommend Pizzetta for pizzas with a view, and Rostei for something a bit special. Most have high chairs and are used to small visitors.

Rainy Day? (It Probably Won’t Rain, But Still)

Both villas have games rooms with table tennis and table football, plus Villa Begur has a basketball hoop. There are plenty of board games and books, and the indoor spaces are big enough that everyone has room to spread out. If you do fancy a trip out, Girona is 40 minutes away and has a wonderful old town to wander.

Getting Here is Easy

Girona airport is under an hour’s drive, and several UK budget airlines fly there. It’s one of the shortest transfers you’ll find for a villa holiday in Spain. Barcelona airport is under two hours if that works better for your flight.

June Prices and a Reader Discount

Because June is before the school holiday rush, our rates are lower than peak season. And for blog readers, we have an exclusive discount code: use BLOGREADER2026 when you enquire or book to get an additional discount on any June 2026 stay.

Both villas sleep up to 13 guests, so if you’re thinking of coming with grandparents, another family, or friends with kids the same age, it works brilliantly. We’ve hosted plenty of multi-family groups who love having the space to be together without being on top of each other.

Get in touch to check availability or browse Villa Begur and Villa Sa Riera to see the full details, photos, and 3D virtual tours.

Your children are only this small once. Make this the summer they remember.
